Phillipsburg, NJ - In a rare display of regional cooperation, Phillipsburg and Easton are preparing to put aside generations of mutual contempt for the 44th annual Halloween Parade on Sunday, October 25.
The festivities begin at 3 p.m. on McKeen Street, where Phillipsburg residents will proudly march toward Pennsylvania, a state they normally enter only for cheaper booze and questionable decisions.
Organizers are calling it a celebration of community unity. Locals are calling it the one day Easton welcomes people from Jersey without checking their credit scores.
Costumed children, marching bands, and decorated floats will cross the Free Bridge, temporarily replacing the traditional exchange of middle fingers with candy and polite applause.
Easton will host the parade’s conclusion at Centre Square, giving Pennsylvania the final word, as usual.
Peace is expected to last approximately two hours.
Hostilities resume immediately upon discussion of Thanksgiving Day football.
