Phillipsburg, NJ - An area Spirit Halloween store has been forced into bankruptcy after ordering thousands of P.A.J.A.M.A. costumes, only to discover most of Phillipsburg already owns the complete outfit.
The $39.99 package included a stained bathrobe, pajama pants, worn-out slippers, a cigarette, and a phone for taking screenshots.
“We saw people dressed like this all over town in September,” said the manager. “We thought they were excited for Halloween.”
Early sales projections collapsed when employees realized customers weren’t trying on the display. They were standing next to it wearing the same thing.
P.A.J.A.M.A. member Debra McBitchley called the costume offensive, overpriced, and “something I would never wear.”
She then asked whether the robe came separately because hers had a cigarette burn.
The remaining inventory will be relabeled “Phillipsburg Business Casual.”
